The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert about falsified batches of Postinor-2 (Levonorgestrel 0.75mg) emergency contraceptive pills circulating in Nigeria. The agency stated that it received a report from the Society of Family Health (SFH), the legitimate manufacturer, confirming that they did not import these fake products. NAFDAC also highlighted noticeable differences between the counterfeit and genuine products, such as smaller font size on the verification sticker and a misspelling of the word “Verify” as “Veify” on the fake version.
1) Protects Your Health
Knowing about fake Postinor-2 pills helps you avoid potentially harmful products that could cause allergic reactions, organ damage, or other dangerous side effects.
2) Ensures Effectiveness of Contraception
By distinguishing genuine from counterfeit pills, Nigerians can be confident that the emergency contraceptive will work properly, reducing the risk of unintended pregnancies.
3) Prevents Financial Loss
Avoiding counterfeit medicines means you won’t waste money on fake products that offer no real benefit and could harm your health.
4) Empowers You to Make Informed Choices
NAFDAC’s alert educates Nigerians on how to spot fake pills (e.g., font size differences, spelling errors), enabling better decisions when purchasing medicines.
